“Wicked Flying Monkeys” (Guardianes de Oz), Ánima Estudios’ first feature-length CGI movie took the third place at the Mexican box office in its opening weekend.
The story of Ozzy – a most unconventional flying monkey who refuses to serve Eveline, the wicked witch – proved to have a lot of appeal with the Mexican public.
Distributed by Videocine and featuring the voices of Susana Zabaleta, Loreto Peralta, Raul Araiza and Jorge ‘el Burro’ Van Rankin, “Wicked Flying Monkeys” reinforces the public’s appreciation for Ánima Estudios projects; all recent Anima releases have debuted in the top 3 in their opening weekends, with “Leyendas de las Momias de Guanajuato” taking # 2 at the BO, “Leyenda de la Llorona” taking the # 2 spot and “Top Cat: The Movie” taking the #1 spot.
‘It gives us great satisfaction to see such enthusiasm from the public. It was an extremely competitive weekend at the box office and the result is extraordinary,’ said Alberto Mar, the film’s director.
